Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer (Sun Certified Java Programmer)

The exam aims to provide a detailed test of basic knowledge of Java programming language essentials. Specific exam topics are: Declarations, Initialization and Scoping; Flow Control; API Contents; Concurrency; OO Concepts; Collections / Generics; Fundamentals; Essentially Java programming language fundamentals are tested and not specific technologies such as GUI creation, Web or network programming.

The Exam

To achieve this certification, candidates must successfully complete the CX-310-065 certification Exam. There are no prerequisites and the questions are set in Multiple choice and drag and drop format. Candidates will be able to attempt 60 questions within a time limit of 180 minutes. The passing score is 58.33% which means you must get at least 35 questions right out of 60.

From SCJP to OCPJP Java Programmer Certification History

Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) Java SE 6, designated CX-310-065 by Sun, was released in December 2007. After Oracle’s acquisition of Sun Microsystems, the Sun Certification Program was fully integrated with the Oracle Certification Program. As a consequence all Sun were re-published and rebranded under the Oracle Certification Program. Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) Java SE 6 also has the name “Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer". OCPJP 6 (SCJP 6) is the current version of this unique certification.

Before SCJP 6.0 based on JDK 6.0 release of Java there had been several previous versions of SCJP based on older JDK releases of Java such as SCJP 5.0, SCJP 1.4 and SCJP 1.2. SCP 5.0 is still available and valid.
